Schizophrenia at ibnlive

This is getting ridiculous.
Three senior staffers at CNN-IBN blog on Rajnikant and Sivaji on ibnlive. First off, it was Anuradha Sengupta, who called the film crap – and Rajni fans came down on her like a tonne of bricks.
Next it was the sports correspondent, Sanjeeb Mukherjee, with a poorly written piece that borders on the irresponsible and the inflammatory by making the whole Sivaji phenomenon an Aryan-Dravidian polarisation. The post drips with thinly veiled sarcasm and a childish attempt at transliterating the Tamilian’s English accent, and ibnlive visitors came down on him like another tonne of bricks.
Finally, it’s Jhoomur Bose, Features Editor, who writes a blog in praise of the superstar. To prove her sincerity, she takes a cheap dig at the Big B, and underlines that she believes Rajni is a national, and not just a south Indian, superstar.

And none of the three bloggers knows Tamil. One claims openly that she knows but a few words. Despite reading Jhoomur’s post twice, I can’t be sure that she has even seen the movie.
This is madness.

Is there a method to the madness, Rajdeep?

Oh cmon. Rajni is no God and everyone has the right to have a go at him and his movies. I dun care if some of the punches are below the belt too.

Dunno what the whole controversy is all about. Anyway the ones who commented on all the blogs were some stupid fanatics. I think we need to condemn that. What is the difference between the so called Rajni fans and the muslim radicals the world over? Both are threatening bodily harm just because someone doesnt agree with their point of view.

Whether you understand Tamil or not is not even a question here. Everyone has the right to criticize anyone. Rajni included.

Btw, i have seen the movie, understand Tamil and found the movie nothing but shit. So, are those idiots going to come after me too?

I think the South Indian movie fans (excluding the ones from Kerala) need to grow up. Seriously.

Philip,

I do not think Anuradha's original post had anything wrong with it; in fact I said so in a post.
It is the next two that I don't quite understand the need for.
I agree entirely that the reactions to Anuradha's post were unseemly, unnecessary and uncivilised.

@ Philip,
Accept that "Sivaji" is not a good movie but it is not "Shit".. I stated this some where in this blog..

"ONLY SOMEONE WHO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING TAMIL MOVIES FOR A LONG TIME COULD ENJOY THE MOVIE.. ".. Because the comedy which is the life of the movie is entirely based on that..

yeah, grown up enough to appreciate a fat, harried-looking mohanlal trying (and pathetically failing) to do a rajni in all those shaji kailas crapfests. or mammootty sporting those bollywood-discard slacks and goggles and trying (and pathetically failing) to do a saif ali khan.

when are you frogs going to come out of your dingy wells? however hard you try to downride rajni and project mals as the resident intellectuals and cineastes of the country, the fact remains that rajni is a universal brand and he has even tamed your two big Ms in their own den with sivaji. and NONE, apart from mals, find anything great in these two actors.

haven't you heard of mammootty approaching achuthanandan to increase entertainment tax on tamil films in kerala? desperation, dudes!
